Grand Theft Auto V is an open world, action-adventure video game. It was developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The game's story revolves around the criminal life of three criminals and their efforts to commit heists while under pressure from a rival gang and law enforcement agencies. Players may take on the role of one of the three available protagonists – Michael, Trevor, or Franklin – at different points in the game's narrative depending on certain events. GTA V is highly popular among PC gamers with it being achievable to be played on low-end systems for players who actively tweak with their computer settings. It has been cracked on release which made it widely pirated on the Internet. It has since been verified and activated legitimately on Steam and other services. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V was developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games on April 14, 2015, two weeks after the release of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The PC version required a permanent internet connection to play and received further post-release support than the console versions. GTA V was released for Windows PCs using Rockstar's RAGE engine, which was also used for GTA IV, Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption. The game was released episodically for Windows PCs; it has three episodes, each priced at $1.79 USD. The PC version of the game does not feature the Grand Theft Auto Online multiplayer mode and cannot be played by itself. The PC version is also not available on Origin and Battle.net and cannot be played directly on a Steam account, but the Steam version is activated by following the steps outlined below. For those who do not wish to install additional programs or entire operating systems to play GTA V on their Windows PC, a single installer package that installs all games is available from Rockstar, as well as a flash drive containing five separate installers with two games each (GTA V and GTA: Complete Edition). Grand Theft Auto V was well received on Windows, but it didn't manage to be as successful as the console versions. The game's port ran well on many machines at high settings, but some players reported issues with stuttering if their hardware couldn't handle the game well. Users also found that the game had issues using some AMD graphics cards, such as the R9 290 and R9 290X, with reports stating that the game would crash while driving on multiple occasions. This issue was attributed to Rockstar not officially supporting these graphics cards, whereas Nvidia and Intel were officially supported.
